BOOSTER CLUB MINUTES
April 19th, 2008
9:00-10:00

1. In attendance:

2. Review of Minutes from 3/15/08; approved as written.
3. Nomination of Officers (election to be held at next booster meeting):
President: Hazel Morningstar (incumbent)
Vice President: Kim Black (incumbent)
Treasurer: Shelia Andrews (incumbent)
Secretary: Hope Kulish (Sheila Andrews will contact her to see if she will accept the nomination)
4. Treasurer Report
a. Income: $800 from candy sales; $500 still to be collected from cadets
b. Expenditures:
$600 to purchase candy for sale
Col. Watson requested $200 for flashdrives to be used as incentives; approved.
c. Fundraising: car wash cancelled due to no presale tickets.
d. Total: $1,100 balance
5. Upcoming Activities
a. Parris Island – April 22-25
all expenses were to be covered by the Marine Corps;
57 students signed up;
permissions went out to 36 students eligible to participate due to grades;
21 forms back by deadline so trip cancelled due to lack of interest. Much discussion ensued about necessity for cadets to take responsibility for fulfilling requirements for extracurricular offerings.
b. Awards Banquet
• date changed to Friday, May 23rd from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at Springfield Lions Club, 18 East 21st Street (Corner of 21st and Main Streets)
• Semi-formal (suits and dresses)
• Number of attendees: 225 expected
• Menu: seafood, chicken, beef. Shauneen Murphy will work with her company, Beaver Fish Co. to provide chefs and menu and possible donation or discount for cost of food. She will also work with her contact at Sam’s Club for supplies. She will report on menu and costs at the next meeting.
• Rental equipment: Lisa got some estimates on dinnerware, glassware, silverware; approximately $876 for sufficient amounts; rejected. Decision approved to utilize disposable tablecloths and dinnerware.
• Decorations: Hazel Morningstar will work with her mother on decorations (68 tables that seat four people each)
• Disc jockey: Col. Watson recommended against; approved.
• Photographer: Sheila Andrews will research and report at next meeting.
• Recognitions: Recommendation for providing appreciation plaques for the Springfield Lions Club and Beaver Fish Co. approved; Hazel Morningstar will price and report at next meeting
6. Other activities
a. Senior Meeting: Scheduled for 4/25 to plan for a celebration for underclassmen.
b. Career Academy: The Ribault MCJROTC has been designated a career academy for aviation. Col. Watson is working with the Association of Black Pilots and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority on a summer camp in July as a kick-off.
c. Summer Boot Camp: Planning a four day camp at Ribault for all NCOs and higher. Glen Academy MCJROTC in Brunswick, GA will be attending as well.
